At Smile Perfections, we know that your time is precious. Many of our patients have busy work and social lives, and most people who need dental restorations such as crowns or veneers would like them in place as quickly as possible. Thanks to our CEREC 3D machine, we are able to create crowns, veneers and other restorations while you wait – so you can have your tooth restorations fitted in a single appointment.

The CEREC 3D machine is one of the most important technological breakthroughs in modern dental care. It enables us to quickly restore damaged or broken teeth using natural, tooth-coloured veneers, metal-free crowns and ceramic fillings, inlays and onlays. The machine uses modern Computer-Aided Design/Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology and incorporates a camera, computer and milling machine.

As well as meaning you spend less time in the dentist’s chair and require fewer appointments, the CEREC technology has the added benefit of using scans instead of impressions, which is more comfortable for patients and particularly useful if you have a strong gag reflex. It also means you don’t need to have any temporary restorations fitted.

To have restorations fitted with the aid of the CEREC machine, your dentist will first remove any areas of decay, worn fillings etc. They will then use the CEREC camera to take a 3D image of your tooth, removing the need for any impressions to be taken.

The perfect restoration for your tooth is then designed on the CEREC computer, before being created out of a ceramic block using the milling unit. It will be closely colour-matched to the natural shade of your teeth. Your dentist will then check it fits comfortably before it is bonded directly on to your tooth with a strong dental adhesive.

Appointment times will vary depending on exactly what work you are having done. However, appointments usually last 1.5 hours, after which you will walk out of the practice with a fully restored tooth and a beautiful smile. The exact cost of your treatment will also depend on the procedure you are having; your dentist will discuss this with you before starting treatment.
